Liebe Mitglieder und Freunde der Sudanarchäologischen Gesellschaft zu Berlin e.V.,
mit Ihrer Hilfe hat die SAG trotz des bewaffneten Konflikts im Sudan in enger Zusammenarbeit mit sudanesischen Partnern Kulturerhalt-Maßnahmen in der UNESCO-Welterbestätte ‚Archaeological Sites of the Island of Meroe‘ gefördert. Dies betraf insbesondere die Pyramiden von Meroe und das Tal von Musawwarat es-Sufra mit seinen Tempeln und anderen monumentalen Bauwerken. Die Arbeiten wurden von Mitarbeitern der National Corporation for Antiquities and Museums (NCAM) and Vertretern der lokalen Gemeinschaften durchgeführt. Sie trugen nicht nur zum Erhalt des archäologischen Erbes bei sondern schufen auch dringend benötigte Verdienstmöglichkeiten für den Lebensunterhalt unserer Partner, die sich unter schwersten Bedingungen für den Schutz des sudanesischen (Welt-)Kulturerbes einsetzen.
Wir möchten hiermit einen neuen Spendenaufruf starten, der auch in naher Zukunft sowohl den Schutz der Stätten der ‚Island of Meroe‘ ermöglicht als auch die lokalen Akteure bei ihren Bemühungen unterstützt. Wenn Sie unsere Anliegen im Bereich Kulturerhalt vor Ort im Sudan unterstützen möchten, laden wir Sie zu einer Spende unter dem Stichwort ‚Kulturerbe in Not‘ auf unser Vereinskonto ein. Wir nehmen auch gern zweckgebundene Spenden für Arbeiten an einzelnen Orten der UNESCO Welterbestätte, wie ‚Musawwarat‘, ‚Naga‘ oder ‚Meroe‘ an und leiten diese entsprechend an unsere jeweiligen lokalen Partner weiter.

Dear members and friends of the Sudan Archaeological Society Berlin e.V.,
with your help, and despite the armed conflict in Sudan, the SAG has supported cultural heritage conservation measures at the UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘Archaeological Sites of the Island of Meroe’ in close cooperation with Sudanese partners. This focused in particular on the pyramids of Meroe and the valley of Musawwarat es-Sufra with its temples and other monumental structures. The work was carried out by staff from the National Corporation for Antiquities and Museums (NCAM) and representatives of local communities. Not only did these projects contribute to the preservation of the archaeological heritage, but they also generated much-needed opportunities for income for our partners, who are working under the most difficult conditions to protect Sudan’s (world) heritage.
We would like to launch a new appeal for donations, which will, in the near future, both enable the protection of the sites on the ‘Island of Meroe’ and support local stakeholders in their efforts. If you would like to support our work in the field of cultural heritage conservation on the ground in Sudan, we invite you to make a donation to our association’s account, quoting the reference ‘Cultural Heritage in Need’. We are also happy to accept earmarked donations for work at specific sites within the UNESCO World Heritage Site, such as ‘Musawwarat’, ‘Naqa’ or ‘Meroe’, and will pass these on to our respective local partners.
